Felix Felicis- Part 1

We humans; may consider ourselves however smart or rational in thoughts, are still somewhere deep inside a bit superstitious. We all or atleast a bunch of us believe in hardwork but even then we give some amount of weight to fate or destiny.

There are still people who don’t believe in God on any usual day but if exams are around the corner, a student starts praying fervently in hope to excel or rather just pass also. If a particular number favors us, we try and make sure that number plays a great role in everything we do be it the house number of a brand new flat or the plate number of a recently purchased car or even the number of letters in one’s name.

When “important” people like filmstars or politicians can have so much faith in such things, well then I am no different. I am not that much into beliefs but I still blame my luck for any wrongdoings which befall on my normal routine. And I equally believe in lucky charms too. Though I never thought my lucky charm would turn out to be a breathing soul.

"Felix Felicis or Liquid Luck" (which is better known to all those who are well versed with the magical world of J.K Rowling) is a magical golden potion that makes the drinker of that potion extremely lucky for a particular amount of time.

And that’s what I would call her too.

She came into my life when maybe I needed no luck. I was doing just fine with my life. All was happy-go-lucky; until she arrived. Not that we became pals the moment we met. I didn’t take any liking to her the first time I saw her. For me she was nothing but a replacement for someone else.

But slowly after months of avoiding her, I had to give into her constant bouts of affection. And since then I have been extremely protective of her.

I have never seen someone so mischievous as her. The moment she had entered our house, she had made it hers, exploring every nook and corner and getting familiar with the idea of being with us. She always had a boisterous attitude and a knack for getting both me and my brother into trouble.

She is the life of our house and the most favoured one too. Sometimes I feel I am the adopted one compared to her but have never been jealous of her and the attention she garners from all in the family as well as friends.

So yes she is a bundle of joy for all but still doesn’t explain why I consider her my lucky charm, does it?

Well if I explained it all in one go, where would be the fun?

She is more than just a happy picture, she is deep down the reason I smile more than earlier.

"The 12"- #10

After months of procrastinating and pretending to have what is termed as "Writer's block", (believe me it is nothing but people being lazy and unfocused :P ) I am back!

And back with hopefully a bang! Because what I am posting is yet another part of "The 12" series. I think this next person is maybe the most random addition to my list of 12 people but the most important.

For those who may know me up close and personal will get it as to why this post is so important.

It is after months of delay that I am writing again so please excuse my grammar all you Nazis :P

And as always Happy reading! :)

Welcome to EITC Campus Hires 2013

This is a tale of a corporate land
A company which is also a known brand
A tale of people 21 in number
This will surely wake you from slumber
Girls are fifteen, boys are six
How to initiate talking, we all were in a fix
But the bond we formed is now so strong
Though we have barely known each other for long
So now the story has begun
Here I present the boy number one
Tall, fair and has a weird knack
Perhaps the only fan of Rebecca Black
Loves chocolates, surprises he destroy
Acts like a baby, is a complete “Mumma’s boy”
(SHANTANU KULKARNI)
Next here is guy number two
Known for having nothing to do
Claims to be a singer, never heard a song
If you see him busy, then something is wrong
Short and fair, has the loudest laugh
Still hung up on someone from his school staff
(SAUMITRA VAIDYA)

Read along, for the poem is free
Now I bring the guy number three
Tall and has a passion for bikes
More than girls, this is what he likes
Simple and nice, enough as detail
Pulsar is his ride which is “Definitely Male”
(JAYESH BACHHAV)
Three are done, there are three more
Let’s welcome our guy number four
His status is mentioned in his name
“I am better than Zomato” is his claim
He is the only guy who has teams two
And each has tied him up with a girly duo
(PANKAJ SINGHAL)
In “Operational Excellence”, he will thrive
Welcoming now the guy number five
His first impression was of a guy so lazy
First week memory of him is slightly hazy
Fun as company, says nothing obscene
Loaded with so much work, now barely seen
(PRANAV PATIL)
All the guys are a good mix
Lastly we have the guy number six
Enters the office very late
Calm in nature, has no hate
Focused in work, has a sharp mind
Stays aloof, often left behind
(RAVI WADJE)

Guys are done, with girls we begun
Applaud here for the girl number one
Fair in looks, has a voice so loud
Doesn’t need mike when in a crowd
Loves to talk, has spirits high
I doubt anyone can really call her shy
(PIYUSHA JAHAGIRDAR)
Poem getting too long to handle
I ll pick girls now in a bundle
The next three are busy all the time
For them taking a break is like a crime
Two are bold and one always shies
Loo,Poo n Ashu are called Butterflies
(LOPAMUDRA,ASHWINI,POOJA)
These two have names which slightly rhyme
Both are usually together most of the time
One deal with networks, loves to mingle
Other works on servers and is definitely single
(CHAITALEE, SONALI)
Up next is a duo as different as can be
Rarely busy, but mostly free
One of them always loves to dance
The other asks question when always a chance
(PRIYA, KOMAL)
These three girls work the most
Whenever I visit, they always look toast
One totally mad, one is silent
One laughs a lot and is not at all violent
(NEHA, DARAKSHA, SHWETA)

The next two are the geeks of the batch
In the same team, they are a perfect match
Their jokes are insane and too much to understand
“Devil’s bitches” is what they would have called their band
(SOWMYA, GAYATREE)

This female looks all time high
Leaves sentences incomplete, I wonder why
Drinks hot water, likes to debate
We call her Grumpy coz she loves to hate
(PARIDHI VARMA)
That leaves the one who is telling this all
Thin, crazy and slightly tall
Has work on hand and still found time
To make this amazing awesome rhyme!

From Prose to Poetry

Hey,

This is a slightly long poem which I have dedicated to my new found friends at my workplace. We have been together for three and a half months and this is in memory of the time spent together so far..

Happy Reading :)

The Army Brat

I am an army kid, born and brought up in surroundings of army trucks, parades and whatever it is that people assume we army people do.

But I would never call myself that huge an army brat (we love calling ourselves THAT). I am pretty sure this term was also coined by one of the kids only. I still mix up the no. of stars on the shoulder panel on the uniform. I still mess up the order of seniority within a regiment sometimes.

But this guy doesn’t. He can perhaps segue into a huge discussion on the wars which India has fought, the years, the martyrs and perhaps even who won which gallantry award.

He is proud of his father being in Army. He doesn’t fail in mentioning it from time to time. And now he aims to make his father proud by being the same.

Welcome the one guy I know close enough to term as “The Army Brat”.

Tall, dark and well slightly handsome now, (age can make a difference you see), he is someone who can mingle in a crowd and also be part of the spotlight. Round face and funny small eyes, and one most important physical feature which I love and envy at the same time, the cute dimpled smile.

How long have I known him?

Well it is long, long enough to know, that he has a golden heart and a very sharp focused mind. You can’t beat him at concentration and determination. He exemplifies hardwork for me.

We are different in a lot of ways. Our thinking, our way of handling a problem. Everything. He is the mature one while I am the kid. He is as calm as sea and well I just don’t function that way. He is humble and often selfless. He has a temper but he knows how to keep it in check. I sometimes feel I am too harsh on him. He deserves way more than I give him credit for.

We share a love-hate relationship. We can fight on any trivial matter for hours, but we can also make up in a matter of seconds. We both have a common love for Bollywood flicks, cheesy or crappy; smart or pathetic. We can watch them all.

I have fought with him, called him names, pulled his hair, beat him and accused him of stuff he had never done maybe; but now that we are far apart living in different cities, I miss him. I miss laughing together, watching stupid Hindi movies and then enacting the funny scenes, the trips to some new eating joints, standing up for each other when we are being scolded. We may have made each other cry, but we still can’t stand seeing the other cry.

Every relationship is put to test. And what better test than distance. Friendships blossom or dry out under this test. But a relationship like this only strengthens. When apart you miss the company. You miss the constant fights, name calling, the bonding. And when you meet after a gap, it is like magic. You have so many stories to tell each other.

I believe the relationship I share with him is the best. We rarely talk to each other, and barely meet. But I know I always have him there for me.
This special bond is worth everything else.

I am pretty selfish as a person and I always think of myself before anyone else. But if I ever stumble across a magic lamp and some genie popped out of it and granted me three wishes. I would use two on him. And maybe then think of myself. I love him the most. And although back in childhood I may have had long discussions with God on why was I made to stick with him, today this moment I am glad he came in my life.

And I wish nothing but the best for him.

Because this brat, deserves it all.

"The 12"- #9

Hello,

And yes after a long absence (count two and half months maybe) I am back with one more of my 12.
I have been really rusty with my writing skills lately. So apologies if it is not my best work. It is just a lot of feelings on a paper and then typed out, keeping mistakes to a minimum :P

This person might be easily identifiable. But he was always part of "The 12".

This goes out to him as a message for all the times he has wiped away my tears or been at the bad side of my anger.

Happy Reading! :)

P.S- Just one post this time too.

The Soul Sister

Once upon a time, there was a girl. Scared and self-conscious. Afraid that she was slightly different from the rest; worried that she will never befriend people. Content in her own shell.

Until she met her.

She was unlike the others. She was warm and had a smile that lit up the room. She had those shiny eyes full of dreams yet dead set and determined.

She was in many ways different than her. Yet there was something that connected them. They grew a bond like no other.

People called them best friends.

I call them soul sisters.

There is a myth in Greek lore. It is said that humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces, but Zeus feared their power and split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete each other.

A soulmate is someone who knows your soul in and out and yet loves you exactly the same every day.

We all have friends but there are only few lucky people who encounter someone special in their life. Someone who becomes their person, their confidante and their support system.

I found my soul sister too.

She is, simply put, unique. She is strong, mature and smart. She has such soft, warm features that you end up falling in love with her. She is classically beautiful and crazy at the same time. Books are her life and music is her oxygen. She charms her way through your heart with her talks and laughter.
I met her at a time when I didn’t expect having a friend or rather I didn’t want any.

I still remember my first ever conversation with her. It was related to a novel I was holding in my hand. Chat over the characters and the sub-plot happened and what we have now is five long years of friendship.

She has these quirks like me. She denies being a romantic but she loves romance and happy endings more than anyone I have ever known. Her ideas and thoughts sometimes irk me, but she is always right. She sees well in everyone. She doesn’t hold any grudges or lives in the past. Her motto, if you can call it that, is “Living in the past holds you back from wishing for the future.”

I might get her likes and dislikes wrong but I still claim that I know her really well. Her voice on the phone or a random text tells me what she is not able to. She is the only person who is expected to take me for granted and I let her.

It has been five years and still counting but never has a day gone when something or the other has not made me miss her. It is said distances ruin relations and friendships. But ours has only strengthened. We have grown up into fine slightly wacky females with a very different outlook on life and we do have disagreements on a lot of things but she is still the first person whom I run to when (pardon the use of profanity) “Shit hits the roof!”

I don’t think it is necessary for soulmates to be exactly similar. We are as different as apples and oranges. If she loves romantic novels, I practically avoid that section of the bookstore now. She is an amazing driver and well I am advised to stay away from anything that runs on petrol so as to avoid death (mine or anyone else’s). She has never ever had anything which might involve coffee as an ingredient and I cannot live without having one cup atleast everyday. I am a dog lover and she is showing traits of crazy cat lady lately.

But we are still similar. We fall in love, get our hopes high and see them crash everytime. We crack lame jokes and back talk each other. We swoon over the fictional characters and pray that they would jump right out of the page into our arms. We make mistakes and curse each other later but we also learn from them and help each other get through them.

She is not just my best friend or my confidante. She is more than that. Much more than that.

She is my anchor. Someone who has never given up on me. Someone who keeps me grounded, especially when I want to hide from the world. She makes me face my deepest and darkest fears. We rarely talk but I know that she will always be there when I need her. She is the mature one between the two of us.

I never wanted to shift to a new city at the peak of my adolescence. But I am glad I did. I am glad I chose that particular school. I am glad that I had a novel in my hand that day; because all this led me to meeting her. And I am glad that I met her.

I am a better person today because of her. I laugh more, I trust more, I care more and I hope more because she makes me. If it were to me I would give her ‘Nobel Prize for Peace’ for calming down and bringing peace to this nervous train wreck and for being so patient and understanding always.

You know this is the most favourite question during any interview, “Where do you see yourself in five years?”

I always make up some imaginative story but the real answer at the back of my mind is, “Five years down the line, I may be jobless, heartbroken, poor and ugly but I will always have my best friend right next to me keeping my hope up and singing me a song in her broken Hindi. That is one thing I am confident about.”
